Homeschool Honor Society

The Lambda Alpha Chapter (Union County) of the Eta Sigma Alpha
National Homeschool Honor Society is now accepting applications for
new membership. The Union County chapter was established in 2003.
The purpose of ESA is to promote academic excellence and community
service. Membership consists of a monthly meeting and community
service. This is not a highly time-consuming membership, but DOES recognize your student for academic excellence when applying to college. Membership places your student's name in the national registry in Houston, Texas. Applicants MUST have a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale PLUS meet ONE of the following testing requirements:

1800 on the SAT
26 on the ACT
180 on the PSAT, or
90th percentile on the CORE or COMPOSITE score on the CAT, IOWA,
Stanford, or other nationally recognized test.

Unfortunately, the testing requirement is not negotiable if your student is close…these scores are the MINIMUM acceptable for membership. (This is established by the national organization.) Rising freshmen many submit their 8th grade test scores…everyone else must submit scores established in high school.

If you have questions or want additional information, please e-mail
Eric Winchester. Click here for an application.

Police Explorers Post is a worksite-based program in which young people learn about particular careers in which they have an interest. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department sponsors two Exploring Posts that provide teens with the opportunities to learn about the law enforcement profession, and make informed decisions about possible future careers. The Police Exploring program introduces students to the world of law enforcement at the local, state, and national levels. Explorers are trained in several aspects of police work and have the opportunities to compete with other posts in state, region, and national conferences. We also offer students the opportunity to participate in the Ride-Along Program, which allows the Explorers to ride in the patrol car with an experienced officer on the job. Two academies are offered every year by our department, and by the North Carolina Association of Law Enforcement Explorers, as opportunities for Explorers to experience abbreviated versions of an actual police academy.

The requirements for eligibility for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Explorers are as follows:

  • Must be 14-20 years of age
  • Must have no serious arrests
  • Must maintain a 2.0 GPA in school
  • Must have a good school record (attendance and behavior)
  • Must have parental approval

Regular meetings are held on the first and third Monday of every month at 7:00PM at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Training Academy located at 1750 Shopton Rd. Explorers will be provided uniforms and will be required to wear them at all Explorer functions.
